Default Estes Viking #1949 - 1986 version instructions

I'm interested in the Estes Viking #1949 instructions, specifically the version with the little Viking dude cartoon decal shown in the 1986 catalog. Found a scan of the decal somewhere, got it cleaned up a little and printed it. I think it'll look right on BT-20. I'm just looking for specs on where to position it, if Estes included them in the instructions.

As it turns out, I have one of those kits. The instructions do not specifically call out where that decal is supposed to be, but I can scan and attach since I've been scanning just now for another thread. Hopefully this scan will be under the 2MB limit...as it will be greyscale rather than color.

The actual decal is dark blue. I suppose I ought to add that into the scan while I'm at it.

added: I'll have to email this one to Scott as it's 2.6 MB with the decal and fin and 2.3MB without it.

A scan would be awesome, thanks!

I think I mentioned in another thread that I picked up some clearance kits that have red molded plastic Viking/Wizard/HF nose cones. I think I'll end up using them both for vintage-like Vikings. One with the little dude and one with the early, all-red decals.

This is a pretty good image of a face card, in case anyone's looking.

I didn't scan the face card. I should do that, too.

The kit I have with that face card does have a red nose cone, but as I said, the decal is dark blue. The Centuri Viking had the red decal (see my Viking research thread for a refresher on the differences). See attached.

If memory serves (and maybe it doesn?t ), that rocket decor is pretty close to the original decor the kit had as originated by Centuri.

Earl

Here's the thread that I did some time ago that documents the Centuri Akela-1 to Viking story.

Ahh, yes. I forgot about that thread. Very, very well documented there, no doubt!

Thanks, that's a much better scan than the other one I found.

The die crushing of that fin is even worse than the ones in my bulk pack. I'm working on ways to rehabilitate (flatten) the fins in the pack, so my builds can at least use those parts. The one you scanned is horrible. How is a Cub Scout supposed to make a rocket fly straight when starting with dishes like that?

The fins in that kit are pretty flat, actually. I think you're just seeing the shadows from the edges, since it's a bunch thicker than the decal and the ruler.

That said, the original Centuri Akela-1 fins I have are nice and flat....as were the Semroc reproductions that I used in that Centuri Viking clone in that other thread.

Scott replied to my email. He?s out of town right now and will post the file when he gets home later in the week.
