Sunward Rocket Plane Swing Test
I'm happy with my Desert Fox rocket but not sure if it will fly straight. The wings make it hard to attach a line to swing test. I tried to find the balancing point but it's not flying straight. I didn't have anything to incrementally add weight to the nose so I put a AA battery just to see what would happen. It didn't help.
Should I just trust that it will be okay? |

Mine flew straight with no issues. Built it stock. |
I bought a few kits with duplicates since they're OOP. My Desert Fox turned out very nice so I can make a back up.Thanks!

If you built it to the stock specifications, with zero modifications, no swing test is necessary, as long as the CG matches what the kit states. |
As I write this, I currently live in a housing development. Next door is a vacant lot. Some portion of it is tall grass, while the rest is dense jungle. With glider like rockets, where it is difficult to do the "swing test," I will take the nearly finished product and aim for the grass to figure out how to trim it. Tall grass is a nice soft braking mechanism. My yard, mostly shorter grass, sometimes works, but more often does not - the "cushion" isn't there - yet.
